Most people know how to behave in an in-person meeting. Most of us also know how to behave on the phone. On video calls, however, it’s an entirely different story.
As the co-founder and CEO of a company that specializes in videoconferencing, I’ve seen that before the Covid-19 pandemic, it wasn’t nearly as common to use video calling services regularly. But now, most of the people I know are having at least one video call per day. Starting in March, the use of enterprise videoconferencing increased significantly compared to pre-pandemic levels.
When something becomes this common this quickly, there’s no universal standard for etiquette. That said, there are some steps you can take to prevent video calls from being an unprofessional mess.
